Child Protection

Code of Conduct

PLAYERS’ CODE OF CONDUCT

1. Play for the fun of it, not just to please parents or coaches.

2. Learn the rules and play by them.

3. Never argue with the referee’s decision.

4. Control your temper. Do not swear.

5. Work equally hard for yourself and the team. It is a team game and in this way your team’s performance will benefit and so will your own. Encourage each other – you are a supporter and a team member.

6. Be a good sport. Appreciate all good play, whether by your own team or your opponents. Maintain high standards of sportsmanship on and off the pitch.

7. Treat all players as you would like to be treated. Do not interfere with, bully or take unfair advantage of any players.

8. Remember that the real goals of the game are to enjoy it, improve your skills and feel good – don’t show off.

9. Co-operate with the coaches, team-mates, officials and opponents – without them you don’t have a game!

10. Wear correct kit and equipment – be well turned out.

PARENTS’ AND SPECTATORS’ CODE OF CONDUCT

1. Children are involved in the sport for their enjoyment and benefit – not yours!

2. Always encourage your child to play by the rules.

3. Teach your child that honest effort and teamwork are as important as victory, so that the result of each game is accepted without undue disappointment. Do not allow your winning side to gloat over victory.

4. Never ridicule children for making a mistake or losing – praise them or keep quiet.

5. Applaud good play by both your own team and their opposition – set an example.

6. Do not publicly question the referee’s judgement and never his honesty. Do not argue with referees or officials or opposing spectators.

7. Support all efforts to remove verbal and physical abuse from youth sport. Do not use foul language.

8. Recognise the value and importance of volunteer coaches. They give up their time and resources to provide recreational activities for your child.

9. Learn the laws of the game. Promote this code of conduct. Thank you.
