Charlton Rovers through to the GFA County Cup Final

On the 7th March Rovers achieved their seasons aim of reaching the clubs first ever County Cup final in adult football. It has been 5 years since the seniors last appeared in a cup final when they beat Woodmancote on penalties to win the Charities Cup. So reaching another final was long overdue

In the semi-final they were drawn against another Cheltenham league team in FC Barometrics who were riding high at the top of the league, so Rovers started the game as slight under-dogs. The game went with form for the first 20mins with Baros proving very lively and dominating the play through the midfield. It was only some stout defending and solid keeping that kept them at bay. Once things had settled down Rovers began to even things up and even took the lead with Matt Courtney-Smith heading home a Dave Payne freekick. This slender advantage didn't last long and Baros soon equalised.

Early in the 2nd half Baros slotted another one home to gain the advantage, but this also didn't last long when a Jordan Cooper corner was headed back across goal by Matt C-S for Dave Payne to score his first to the season and his first headed goal of his long and illustrious career. Whether it was the shock of seeing Dave score a header or the determination of the Rovers players they then took the lead again through top scorer Matt C-S. This then inspired Baros to go all out for the equaliser but despite constant bombardment the Rovers defence held strong.

Eventually after what seemed like another 3 hours the final whistle blew and Rovers could celebrate reaching the final.
